My work is to explore the relationship between people and plants with plants as the carrier. In my life, there has always been the shadow of plants, such as the garden in my childhood memory home, I will collect plants mixed with books, as well as the education of Chinese culture from childhood and so on. I started to formally create plants in 2014, mainly focusing on painting. After coming to London, I subjectively began to have a variety of media attempts. I tried to make some new breakthroughs and attempts in materials, and I began to be more interested in using collage and sculpture to express this theme. In the first unit, I made some small collages and models about the garden. In my opinion, people can't leave the city, but they need a spiritual sustenance. The garden of the city becomes the habitat of the spirit.
I will be in unit 2, I will be specific to the relationship between people and plants in the indoor environment. The relationship between human beings and family plants is a relationship of dependence and care. Plants can arouse a kind of sympathy. In terms of materials, I chose cloth collage. As described by Magdalena Abakanowicz, a Polish Artist: "fabric is our covering and our attire. Made with our hands, it is a record of our souls.". This kind of temperature is also what I like to convey to the audience. People and plants are interdependent, and plants can comfort people's hearts.

UNIT 2
UNIT 1
Painting
Painting was used to be my main way of creation, so I started with acrylic painting, and continued my previous painting style at the beginning of term. But at the same time, I also wanted to adopt a new perspective of painting, so I enlarged the part of plants I painted. It seems that the plants I painted are also living individuals.
The image of cactus is my favorite painting theme. Many people don't like cactus as a symbol of danger and distance. But I think they symbolize a strong character. Because the environment they grew up in was very hard, so they had a tough character.

Collage
After drawing two pieces of plant works similar to the previous style, I thought the style was a little monotonous. So, I wanted to dig into my topic and explored it more deeply. I was eager to try new materials and form, so my studio practice had been exploring again and again. I had tried different materials to create one work, such as screen painting, collage, and dyed string. The following is a detailed description of my creative process.
I tried to use screen printing effect to create my own works. When I came to the screen printing studio, I had a simple exchange with Brian. He was very patient to expose the screen for me. Because it was the first time that I used the equipment in the studio myself, Brian told me carefully step by step. Before I came, I was worried about whether I would be delayed for a long time because of my slow learning. In fact, in less than an hour, I have completed my first experience of silk screen. I just printed a part of my photograph, and then prepared to create it again. This experience makes me feel that as long as I can take the first step, everything is not so difficult.
To dye the string
In the post collage works, in order to increase interest. I used computer processing. In my opinion, computer processing symbolizes a fusion of technology, so that my picture has both hand-made parts and post-processing technology, which is an interesting attempt.
In the part of the collage, I want to try a batch of works to form a plant image with some part of the human body. The idea was impressed by artist Fred tomasellid. His collage works are based on life, and turn these materials from life into an art higher than reality.

Etching

Clay
Clay is the material I've tried before. Because I like to try different materials very much, so I went to the pottery studio. First of all, I made a small model, because I have been trying soft materials recently, so I used cotton rope to circle the model layer by layer. In the end, the texture of the soil is totally invisible.
My second clay work is to enlarge the cactus model made between. Then color it.
Litho
Using the last week at the end of the semester, I went to experience the course of litho. I don't like this kind of material very much. First of all, the process is complicated. Second, some materials used have a pungent color smell. However, it is also an interesting attempt.
