Artist Statement 1

My painting practice is to discuss the delicate relationship between people and plants, of which my focus is on the garden. What I'm interested in is that the garden is now a way of interaction between people and plants. Garden is a kind of man-made behavior. Plants in the wild are placed together according to human's wishes. At the same time, plants in the garden form a kind of reaction force to people, such as can make people relax and entertain. The image of plants has always fascinated me. Although they are closely related to us, it is easy for human beings to ignore its existence.

At present, I am interested in the continuous exploration of materials. The two main materials I try are collage and textile materials. In terms of collage, I collected some materials in my daily life, such as newspapers, magazines, wool, etc., and combined them with the characters I photographed to form a picture effect of symbiosis between people and plants. In terms of the use of textile materials, I want to make some cactus sculpture models of different sizes, and then wrap the surface of the sculpture with cloth or wool. Cactus is a plant image I like very much. It gives people a sense of danger and uneasiness. I use soft materials to show them, which can let the viewer re-examine the things we are used to in our life. During this period, I was also influenced by contemporary artists, such as Fred Tomaselli, the natural image collage artist, and Joana Vasconcelos, the visual and fabric artist.

In general, my works hope that my works can bring different experiences to the viewers, provide new vision to examine the plants in daily life and think more about the relationship between people and plants.
